5 ways to keep your little ones entertained this half term

With half-term just around the corner, the chances are that you’re thinking about ways you can keep your little ones entertained. Sure, you can give them an iPad or send them to the kids’ club, but there are lots of other things that you can be getting up to that will enrich their young minds and keep them entertained – without making you want to pull your hair out!

Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites…

Head to the park

You really don’t have to spend hundreds of pounds during half-term looking for the latest and greatest activities like theme parks, laser quest, and bowling. In fact, some of the best activities are free and on your doorstep – like heading to the local park. Take a picnic and you can spend a few hours walking, playing on the swings, and getting deeper into nature. Consider printing off a chart where youngsters can look out for bugs and insects – they’ll be learning and having fun at the same time.

Organise a play date

One of our favourite things to do during school holidays is to organise playdates with your little one’s friends. Invite them around for a pizza party with movies, food, and toys – even better if you’re celebrating a birthday party or a special event. One of the best parts about a playdate or party is that the chances are, the parents of your child’s friend will want to return the favour, giving your little one another day of fun – and you a few hours of much-needed peace of relaxation!

Decorating

Yes, really! Get your little ones involved in an interior design project and ask them for help renovating their bedrooms. If their rooms are ready for a refresh or an entire makeover, you can get them involved in the process, choosing wall art, colours, and furnishings. It can be good fun and serves as a reward for a job well done during term-time. Better yet, it’s an opportunity to encourage them to part with some of their toys and belongings – decluttering can be fun if you let it be!

Try some arts and crafts

If you want to inspire your kids to be their creative selves, then be sure to check out these easy craft ideas for kids on the Everything’s Rosie website. The team has put together some fantastic craft ideas like gift tags, finger puppets, and paper tube microphones. Again, these are free activities that will keep your little ones occupied for hours on end – and it uses up some of your recycling in the process!

Leave them be

There are enough reasons to feel guilty as a parent nowadays – so don’t put pressure on keeping your children entertained at every minute of the day during half-term. Let them be and allow them to find activities and tasks to keep themselves entertained – even if that is sitting in front of the television or their iPad for a few hours. Just know when enough is enough and suggest something else.
